“Just wanted to say thanks for the excellent seeds and experience in general and also for the free gift! That was really cool and made my day :). The Izmir seeds are great and have really worked out well! I’ve had almost 100% germination rate with them!!”

A bit Pricy, but considering that Izmir Oil & Spice Farms are no longer in Business and Organical Botanicals is the ONLY Source that still carries this amazing Breed, I’m a bit surprised to have even found any for sale at all!! I wanted to wait to see what kind of result I got before I left this review, so now that the Season has long been over for me. All I can say is: OH…MY….GOD!! These were BY FAR the most Superior Strain in the Papaver Somniferum Kingdom (if I said that properly *LOL*).
But they belong in a Class of their own. Now I know why they cost so much!! WOW! Talk about YIELDING!!
I hope they still have these next year and the years to come because if they don’t, this Strain may actually be in Danger of going extinct.

Last year I ordered the Galania strain from Organical Botanicals and they were magnificent specimens. I was a little skeptical about the finished product since Izmir farms had been closed for so long, and this strain was supposed to be “the strain” for growth rate, production, etc… It turned out to be beautiful. This was my first time growing poppies in my garden, and the colors they produced were worth the time.
It is now the beginning of 2017 and I have added more varieties to my cart. This year I plan to section off a large portion of my garden just for my different poppy strains. I also bought some pots to put around the deck with my other plants. Can’t wait!!

I live in an extreme southern state and growing poppies is damn near impossible, unless we have a cold, dry winter and spring weather does not reach mid-80s after middle to late March. If these temperatures are reached the heat and humidity will slay all of my work within days. Many years my plants dropped dead while in the hook stage or turned up only to die at the moment of flowering. I have tried seeds from many different climate regions with basically the same results. Poppies grow best in an arid climate and this is not where I live. This year I’m growing these GMO seeds. At first, I thought I was sent either a bad batch or immature seeds as for a month not one seed germinated. Then we had a cold snap and within a week both trays of seeds germinated. That was mid-December, seven weeks later all but one the plants survived, are 10″- 12″ across , 10″ tall and much healthier than any other variety I’ve planted this year. If the climate Gods smile upon me this should be the best crop in 15 years of attempting to grow Papaver.
I suggest to other Users, if you want faster germination, put your seeds in the freezer a few days before planting and good luck.

Yes, Thanks you for your input! Perhaps you haven’t heard of this “Refridgerator” Method (where other people who live in warm Climates swear upon).
Which is basically what you’re saying. So THANK YOU for sharing that info with us here. NOW Confirmed.
Poppies can be tricky to get started. They need cool Temps, and a lot of LIGHT and SPACE. But we have so much more Info in our Blog.
I Hope you were able to see our TUTORIAL for Growing in Warmer Climates HERE (as well as our MAIN, 5-Part Tutorial HERE )
-THANKS!!

Update, all I can say is that these seeds are amazing! My state had 25 days in a row of mid-80 degree weather and high humidity in February. I thought that my whole crop would either wither and die or their growth would be severely stunted. Not only did these Afghans survive the mid-winter heat wave, but thrived and are now are 32″- 40″ tall with huge leaves. Many individual plants have developed 3 or 4 buds and today was my 1st bloom, pastel pink with center white cross. My tasmanians are half the size and look sickly compared to these. Expensive seeds but absolutely worth every cent.

By far the fastest growing highest producing flower I have grown in 23 years of gardening! Astonishing is not an understatement, these are WELL WORTH the money

Amazing is all I can say, a very hearty strain that puts up with a lot of variety of temps as the west coast can have. Whenever someone asks me where to get seeds and which seed I tell them organical botanicals Afghan gmo you can’t go wrong! A+

1 week and 100% germination so far, i keep pots overnight in the refrigerator and days under the led or outdoors depending on the weather.thank you 10/10

I have grown this variety for three years now. If any other grower that has grown these seeds and has had them mature within 55 days, please tell me how you did this. Don’t get me wrong, the plants are great but they only flower a week or so before my blue, red, and white poppies that were all germinated at the same time. In 20 years of growing I have found that opium poppies take 14 weeks or more to flower. The seeds I purchased here are no exception.
OrganicalBotanicals –
The 55 Days refers to Optimal Conditions (which means, time of year, location, Nutrients, [Nitrogen Content, Water Regimen], Medium, the Grower’s experience among thousands of other variables).
Most people that have grown these properly have experienced this to be true.
Be sure to explore our Blog to learn some tips you may not have known.

Great seeds. All of mine bloomed successfully here on the eastern coast of the USA. I found a nice place to plant them. But buy here if you are into growing for flowers

While I haven’t grown any yet, I did receive white poppy seeds, which look to be the authentic izmirs. I know people get burned by fake sites selling stuff like this a lot, and end up getting apprehensive about ordering, but I think these guys are for real. Just be patient, as it took around two weeks to ship.
I guess that’s no different than waiting in line for the next new iPhone, etc. People wait for good things that cost a lot of $$ all the time.
So perhaps this is normal.

After growing these Izmir Afghan Poppies for 4 years now, I think I might have some insight into this strain (even though “Strain” is the incorrect Term, so what do I know? – LOL).
First of all, and I have discussed this with other growers, the 55 day flowering cycle may seem like a pipe dream for some growers who might have NO experience at all.
In fact, some idiots think it’s only possible in central Asia, which doesn’t have ideal temperatures, or growth Environments for these, since these originated at Izmir Farms in CANADA!! IDIOTS!!
But THESE FULLY Mature from SEED to POD in 55 days- Even after you factor in a week or two for all to sprout, and time for all the pods to mature and be tapped- THIS STRAIN does ALL that in HALF the TIME and they’re STILL better quality than ANY of my other Poppies.
These are the best I have ever grown- which is still 2 to 4 weeks better than the other varieties I plant. These seeds do reach maturity faster. Their yield is second to none. Many plants have 6 to 12 buds with the best having 18 pods. Other strains of papaver only have 1 to 5 flowers. So, these ARE the real Chinese seed in my opinion. As far as I can tell, these are the highest producing strain I’ve ever grown.
Most of the other Wannabe Sellers out there on eBay, try to Sell Danish Flag Seeds, and pass them off as these Afghan Seeds!.
But it’s easy to tell, because Danish Flag Seeds are Dark Brown, NOT Off-White like these ones were.
These are the REAL DEAL.
Just my two cents.
